Who’s Who?

So I was watching Perfect Strangers, obviously dubbed in German, the other day, and I couldn’t help but notice the distinct similarities between Balki Bartokomous, played by Bronson Pinchot, and Spurs guard Manu Ginobilli. After this epiphany, I’ve decided to try and gather some of my favorite basketball look-a-likes.

Who’s who? One is a three-time NBA Champion, a former NBA All-Star, an Olympic Gold Medalist and former Euroleague champ. The other is Larry’s cousin from the island of Mypos. It is also important to note that Family Matters is a spin-off of Perfect Strangers - the more you know.

Next up, Adam Morrison and Billy Crudup’s character Russell Hammond from “Almost Famous.” One is the front man for the fictional rock band Stillwater. The other is a mediocre NBA player who once co-won the Oscar Robertson Trophy as NCAA College Player of the Year and famously cried during a game against UCLA.

Next we have a classic Texas Tornado, four-way showdown. The challengers, Anderson Varejao, Carlito, Justin Guarini and Sideshow Bob. To recap accomplishments, one has tried to kill Bart Simpson on several occasions; another lost to Kelly Clarkson on the first American Idol and subsequently costarred in the fabulous movie “From Justin to Kelly;” another is a former WWE Intercontinental and United States champion; and the final one won a gold medal at the Pan American games and now carries LeBron James’ luggage.

Here we have actor Jean Reno and baller Vlade Divac. One is a two time Olympic silver medalist, the reason Kobe Bryant is a Los Angeles Laker, and has appeared in Space Jam and Married with Children; while the other is one bad French mo’fo.

Here we have Dirk Nowitzki and Barry Pepper. One of them is an Emmy and Screen Actors Guild nominated actor who once portrayed Roger Marris, while the other is a former NBA MVP who lost in the first round to an 8-seed.

Chris Noth and Mehmet Okur. One won the NBA Championship with the Detroit Pistons before signing a free agent contract with the Utah Jazz; the other is famous for his role as Mike Logan on Law & Order. No, I did not know that he was also a character on Sex and the City. Deny. Deny. Deny.

One is Ivan Drago, the almost unstoppable antagonist from Rocky IV, who killed Apollo Creed with his bare hands. The other is Andrei Kirilenko, one of only 2 men in NBA history to record a 5 x 6, a game in which a player registers at least 6 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 blocks, and 6 steals, when he posted the stat line of 14 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 6 steals and 7 blocks on January 3, 2006. The other player to post a similar line? Former Raptor Hakeem Olajuwon, at the time a Houston Rocket.

Speaking of former Rockets, I’d be remiss if didn’t toss this one in too. It really needs no write up.

Ray Liotta and Aryvdas Sabonis. One was, arguably, one of the premier centres for close to 20 years, a multiple time winner of European basketball player of the year and Olympic gold medalist. The other is an actor who has quite a diverse filmography, appearing in “Goodfellas,” “Corrina, Corrina,” “Muppets from Space,” “Blow,” and “Bee Movie.” Daddy, why is the man from the Muppet movie playing with that white stuff?

Last but not least, we have former number 1 draft pick Andrea Bargnani and actor Jude Law. One is a former 2-time NBA Rookie of the Month winner who learned his craft in Italy. The other is a two-time Academy Award nominated actor who fooled around with his kids’ nanny, ruining his relationship with the beautiful Sienna Miller.

And Sienna Miller. Just ‘cuz.
